Senate 30 members including president paid eight dollars daily, ordinary members four, totaling eight thousand five hundred eighty dollars. House 86 members plus speaker paid eight dollars daily, rest four, totaling fourteen thousand seven hundred sixty dollars. Overall payroll for 45 days equals forty three thousand eight hundred forty dollars, about one thousand dollars per day.

Roanoke Man in Murder Mystery Lives Dimly Known
Roanoke Va Feb 2 CG A Rhodes was found dying in his stable after a suspicious incident. He rose at 6 AM and died within minutes after being moved to the house. About $35 was missing from his possessions and foul play is suspected. Rhodes, 64, a Staunton native, served in Lee’s army and became Roanoke’s pioneer ice manufacturer before later dairy work.

Made Girl Believe She Was His Wife Trial
J McWilliams, formerly of Bluefield and ex manager of the Bluefield Journal, and Miss Sy Bertha Lockhart were indicted for living together at Panther without license and parson's permit. McWilliams testified they married in Pulaski Virginia last March and produced a certificate. The prosecution claimed the marriage was a sham and that the defendant misled the woman. The jury found both guilty, the court sustained the verdict on motion, and a second verdict upheld with McWilliams fined three hundred fifty dollars.
