Demolition funding grows for Mercer County region
Gov. Jim Justice and WVDEP announce 69 communities will share 15.6 million in DLAP grants. Mercer County gets 750000 for demolitions, Bluefield 650000, Princeton 78000. County bids batch 5 of 34 structures, bringing total demolitions to 175 and aiming for 100 more with round two funding.

Elk Reintroduction Reaches 127 Animals In West Virginia
Seventeen elk have been relocated to the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area in Logan County as part of West Virginia efforts to rebuild the elk herd. Governor Jim Justice and the WVDNR confirmed the transport, with the animals to be held briefly before release. The project follows a century of extirpation and ties to tourism and conservation plans for Logan County.

Bluefield Erects 30 Banners for Black History Month
City crews braved cold and snow to raise thirty banners across Bluefield honoring local figures and noted individuals for Black History Month. Banners will line busy routes such as Bluefield Avenue and Bland Street as the city also runs a Black History Month contest.
