Giles County Youth Shoots Father Fatally in Self Defense
Maiden Shrader 49 of Chapel Giles County Va. shot to death at home at 9 40 last night with a 16 gauge shotgun. Son James Edward Shrader 17 told state trooper and deputy sheriff he fired in self defense after his father drank abused family and pursued him with a knife. Youth not arrested, will be held at home pending arraignment with grandfather agreeing to take him to Pearisburg for a trial justice. Shrader was an acetylene and electrical worker at Celanese plant. He was married to Mary Lambert of Bluefield. The Shraders had 11 children, 10 living. Mrs Lambert and her father John Lambert are named in Bluefield.
