Richmond, Va. Jan. 31 The political editor argues Judge William Hedges Mann the Democratic temperance candidate may win. He notes 70 counties and three cities are dry and predicts Mann could gain anti saloon support. If Mann is nominated Democrats opposed may vote Republican or abstain. A movement to have Swanson or Willard step aside is rumored.
Princess Victoria daughter of King Edward underwent an appendicitis operation at Buckingham Palace this morning. A physician bulletin reported the operation was successful and the patient is progressing satisfactorily.
President Roosevelt and party arrived from Philadelphia at four this morning and were driven to the White House after seven forty five. The trip was without incident.
A blaze at the Victor Talking Machine Company plant in Camden causes about $50,000 damage. Fifty girls working in the building were frightened. one fainted, but all were rescued.
