A storm disrupts harbor traffic as vessels collide in New York Harbor during heavy snow. The article notes broader maritime tension in the Far East and shifting naval actions influencing British interests and regional trade openings.
The Red Cross line steamer Portia, four days overdue from St Johns and Halifax, collided with the ferry Nevada as it neared New York Harbor in a blinding snowstorm. Portia sustained bow damage while Nevada was towed ashore with intense excitement aboard.

A westbound Extra freight train 254 derailed three miles west of Norwood, killing fireman William Foster and injuring engineer John O'Leary as the engine exploded. O'Leary, briefly unconscious, had $30, a switch key, and other keys stolen from his pocket. Conductor W. T. Lawson survived unscathed. both men faced serious but non fatal injuries and were treated at home. The cause remains unknown though water supply was not at fault.
