Final journey of Hank Williams Sr to Bluefield
Five decades after Hank Williams Sr died en route to a New Year show, new details emerge of the 1953 stop in Bluefield. The 29 year old singer hired Charles Carr to drive his light blue Cadillac from Montgomery to Canton with a relief driver, but Williams collapsed near a Pure Oil station in Oak Hill and died. Williams, born September 17 1923 in Georgiana Alabama, rose from street vendor and paperboy to form the Drifting Cowboys and redefine country music before his war time welding work.
