District Judge Lourdes Baird ruled Apple did not libel Carl Sagan by using his name to promote the Power Macintosh 7100-66 or the code name Butt-Head Astronomer. Sagan argued the name invasion of privacy and Apple later halted use of his name.
A 17 year old, Adgnis Matthews, was shot on a Brooklyn subway platform during a robbery targeting his diamond studded gold teeth. His mother believes the motive was the pricey gear, while police continue to hunt two gunmen.

North Korea released US Army helicopter pilot Bob Hall after a 13 day crisis. Hall walked to freedom across the Panmunjom border village at 11 16 am local time. The United States expressed regret for the incident and agreed to a written understanding that the helicopter accidentally strayed into North Korea. Hall will undergo medical eval at a Seoul base before returning to the United States.
Agriculture official August Schumacher Jr., administrator of the U S Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service, visited The Dean Co. in Princeton as part of a two day trip to study fast growing wood product exports. He aims to learn from local exporters what export marketing help the service can provide. The tour covered Virginia and West Virginia in prior days.
Mailings rise as the United States increases postage. First class letters move from 29 cents to 32 cents on January 1. The Postal Service projects about 4.7 billion dollars more revenue in 1995 after a four year pause. New stamps appear with Old Glory and a peace dove, plus postcards gain 20 cents. Stamps printed at new prices arrive in spring. Locally, Bluefield Federal Station reports heavy sales of 32 cent and three cent stamps during a slow period.
Gary Nelson of Rocky Gap District resigns from the Bland County Board of Supervisors for work related reasons. Nelson, elected in 1988 to a second four year term, cited heavy involvement in organizations and meetings. He works at a Bland County bank and led a church fundraiser that raised over 10,000 for a Wolfe Creek church addition.
