Atlanta doctors used a mine detector and a magnet to extract a bent nail swallowed by Kay Shaw 2. They confirmed the object was magnetic and, with the child held upside down, pulled the nail out using a magnet tied to a string. Kay had found the nail in a carpenter set her older brother got for Christmas at the Porterdale Clinic.

Los Angeles on December 29 The estate of sculptor Felix Peano has been approved for probate and a $10,000 bequest designated to support the creation of a "superman" by a yet unnamed eugenic society. The decision was made by Superior Judge Newcomb Condee who admitted the will to probate.
Fourteen men rescued from an Arctic Greenland ice cap were to fly to New York if weather allows. Lt Col Emil Beaudry led the C-47 mission with Lt Charles Blackwell, while the group endured cold and a polar bear sighting. They had been stranded since Dec 9 and were saved in 38 minutes of flight.
Miami December 29 A Coast Guard check follows an unofficial report that survivors of the DC-3 charter missing for nearly two days may have been seen on a Cuban beach. Forty five aircraft and a Navy blimp have scoured Florida Everglades and surrounding waters as search efforts continue for the 32 aboard.
