In Burgos Spain six Basque separatists all in their 20s were sentenced to die by firing squad after a military court convicted them of murder tied to an armed campaign for Basque independence. Three of the six drew a double sentence.
A Spanish military court convicted six Basque ETA members of murder in a campaign for Basque independence. They received double death sentences and long prison terms. a defense priest was jailed for 12 years. The case drew international reaction and a Franco-era backdrop.
The Senate voted 49 to 21 to return the welfare bill to Finance Committee and remove trade quota and Family Assistance Plan provisions. The move raises the odds of passage for Social Security increases affecting 26 million Americans but ends Nixon’s welfare reform and import quota riders.
Montreal police arrested Paul Rose and his brother Jacques Rose along with Francis Simard after a light flicker led officers to a tunnel under a farmhouse at St Duc.
