Forecasters predict a week of above average temperatures for the Bluefield region with highs near 65 and 64 Wednesday and lows around 55 and 49. Rain chances run 40 to 50 percent as a warm front drifts across the area, influenced by La Nina, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Erik Taylor.
West Virginia sees 3450 new cases Monday, more than twice holiday week level. Mercer County reports 469 active infections, 301 new cases in seven days, while Raleigh County has 269 active cases in the same period. McDowell County logs 34 new cases and 103 active infections.
In six southern West Virginia counties, teams distributed free Naloxone kits the afternoon of December 23 as part of the state’s Free Naloxone Day effort. Greg Puckett of Community Connections, Inc. said the operation reached multiple overdose-prone areas, building on September’s statewide event with seventeen other hard-hit counties.
