City taps Dillow to serve as interim police chief
Bluefield City Manager Jim Ferguson named Lt. D.M. Dennis Dillow interim police chief after former chief J.W. Wilson retired. Ferguson said Dillow may apply for the permanent post, with Lt. Myers also in consideration as the city reviews resumes over about a month. Dillow, 43, began as a probationary officer in 1990 and rose to lieutenant after a career on the force.

Two Monroe residents stable after alleged robbery
Monroe County Sheriff Mike Gravely reports two residents were injured in an alleged robbery Wednesday at 9 40 p m. The victims Debra Worrell 58 of Bozoo and Tanner Moore 19 of Peterstown were taken to Princeton Community Hospital. State Police and deputies searched for a suspect as the investigation continued.

Federal inmate named in four count federal information
Bluefield report states Todd Allen McColley, an inmate at FCI McDowell County, was named in a four count federal information filed December 21 alleging that on October 25, 2011 he threatened four individuals known to the government to extort money. The information says he intentionally threatened injury to those persons identified by initials. Assistant U S Attorney John L. File handled the case. No hearing dates listed.

Temporary site eyed for planned Tazewell dental school
Tazewell County officials consider a county owned temporary campus in the old health department building in Tazewell if grant funding for a Bluestone Center dental school is delayed. Enrollment is slated for 2015 with Bluefield College as partner. Proposals for design and a consultant are due January 18 with aims to enroll students by fall 2015 to address regional dentist shortages.
