In Martinsburg West Virginia Judge D H Rodgers ruled 1929 Berkeley county valuations should stand for 1930 while Morgan county valuations set by the state board of public works were approved. The board’s statewide 1930 increase of 2 500 000 faced challenge from Western Maryland Railroad and state Tax Commissioner Townsend supported the state position.
Mrs. William S. McDowell wife of Bishop William S. McDowell of the Odust Episcopal church died after several weeks illness at her home in Washington. Paris December 27 Marshal Joffre, famed for repelling the Germans at the Marne, lies between life and death in a hospital after an above knee amputation. Gangrene, from advanced arthritis, threatened his other leg. doctors warned the outlook remained gloomy and news from the hospital was withheld by Madame Joffre.
