Shoppers disappoint retailers this holiday season
Shoppers spent cautiously this holiday season as retailers slashed prices to lure buyers. MasterCard SpendingPulse shows a 0.7 percent rise in electronics, clothing, jewelry and home goods over last year, well below forecasts and the weakest since 2008. Weather, economic uncertainty, Newtown, and looming fiscal cliff weighed on spending, with online sales up 8.4 percent, and regional declines and gains reflecting varied consumer demand.
