Jack Perdue’s leg broken in hit and run crash

Jack Perdue, twenty, is hospitalized with a broken left leg after a hit and run on a road near Kellysville. He was found in a ditch by Tred Pendleton and taken by two Bluefield men to Princeton. Perdue says he faced the car when struck and was knocked unconscious as deputies investigated.

Seals Friendship Pact With Kiss Noted at Event

Shot Victim to Be Buried in Alabama

The body of Barney Albert Sanders, 36, killed in a Christmas Day hunting accident, will be sent to Alabama City for funeral and burial. Sanders, a Tennessean and Carnwell miner, lived on Shell Brady’s farm near Princeton with his family. He leaves his widow Mamie and six children, ages 10 months to 16 years. He married Mamie Hollandsworth in Alabama on March 12, 1924.

Man slain in Panther Creek shooting and hit-and-run

McDowell county mourns as Fred L. Snellenbarger 29 is killed by shotgun blast while investigating thieves. Wife Pearl 26 injured when struck by fleeing car. Both from Snellenbarger home burned recently and now staying with in-laws. Police probe with state and county agencies. no arrests reported. Burial for John McCarthy, 75, also noted with details on his long county service and survivors.

Rites Held for George Christian in High Knob Cemetery

Last rites were held Tuesday in High Knob cemetery near Taeger for George Christian 45 of Dear Iseger who was burned to death when his small house on Coon Branch burned Saturday night. He had lived there about three months after moving from Hampton Roads and rented the house from John Church near Yaeger. The body was badly burned and the fire’s cause is undetermined.

Funeral rites are held today in Patrick Springs Virginia for Mrs P E Witt 89 who died in a local hospital after a month of illness She had been visiting a daughter in Kimball for some time and leaves six children including Mrs Pete Hopkins Mrs Cora Williams Mrs Pearl Kendrick Mrs Edith Kendrick Witt and George Witt plus other relatives.

Mrs D M Darr Dies in Kansas

Word was received in Welch of the death of Mrs D M Darr mother of Mrs John Greer of Welch who passed Monday evening in a hospital in Newton Ky after a prolonged illness The woman was nearly 75 years of age and would have celebrated her birthday on January 17 She became ill on September 26 and had been visited several times this fall by Mrs Greer.

Welch Society Dances Scheduled This Week

Two dances are scheduled in Welch to close the holiday social season. The first will be Friday evening at the Memorial building hosted by the Triangle club, with a second event to follow later in the week.

New Year dance events and social notices in Welch

A New Year’s Eve dance will be held at midnight Sunday night with a community sing at midnight and coffee and doughnuts served. The organizing committee includes several local ladies. A bridge party honoring Mrs. Percy Gillie occurs this evening at 8 in the Appalachian Community room, Welch. Also noted are Welch personal visits and holiday gatherings among residents from nearby towns and colleges.

State banking chief named trust officer in Charleston

Charleston West Virginia December 26 (UP) State Banking Commissioner George Ward was elected trust officer of the Charleston National Bank and will start January 1. Ward, ex president of the Bank of Mill Creek, will succeed C Paul Heavener who resigned to resume law practice. Governor Holt expressed regret over the loss of a capable executive. Ward has served as banking commissioner for three terms since 1934, overseeing state banks and related financial entities. He is a World War I aviator, married with five sons, and educated at Greenbrier Military School Washington and Lee and Carnegie Tech.

A blaze damaged the residence of John Evans on Monday with fire crews battling flames and reports of structural damage. No injuries were listed, and investigators began inspecting the scene for the cause as neighbors watched.
