Joe Ingram a colored resident of Capels was fatally shot at a boarding house in Capels near Welch. Samuel Tyler the boarding house operator was arrested and charged with murder. Officers say the shooting followed an alleged attack on Tyler s wife during an argument and that a 32 20 calibre pistol was the fatal weapon. The body was taken to Page Funeral Home.

Lucedale farmer Murdock Hinton, 48, told officers he killed four people in Pascagoula Mississippi including his ex wife his 18 year old daughter Gloria and two month old granddaughter Judy and Sheriff J E Nelson after a four day multi state manhunt. He said he wrapped the shotgun in Christmas gift paper and fired after an attempted confrontation over a Pensacola visit. He was captured at his mother's home near Hurley Mississippi.
Deputy Sheriff Ashly Williams said John Melvin Foster 27 of Winston in Fayette County died in a Montgomery hospital from gunshot wounds suffered in a brawl. He was shot in the stomach last night during a free for all in a tavern on State Route 61 near Wriston.

Frances Thornton twenty five year old Hiwatha mother of a three week old baby was critically injured when a foreign make automatic pistol discharged while her husband Walter a coal company store clerk cleaned the weapon for a midnight celebration. She was rushed to St Luke's hospital and physicians reported a through the lung and trachea. Her condition remained unchanged late last night. Thornton is the daughter of Matoaka police officer Carl Sawyers.
A 70 year old Birmingham invalid, Mrs. Julia Margaret Gore, lay helpless for three days near the body of her husband, John L. Gore, after neighbors found them in their northside apartment on Christmas Eve. She was hospitalized in fair condition. She could talk only a little and was unable to reach food or summon aid during the long ordeal.
