Finnish app reduces reindeer roadkill in Lapland
In Lapland Finland an app named Porokello translates to Reindeer Bell and uses GPS to warn drivers of nearby reindeer for one hour within a 1.5 kilometer zone. Since June a pilot project with 1000 free smartphones shows fewer accidents, though officials caution warnings are not foolproof as reindeer movement remains unpredictable.
