Family clings to makeshift home amid hard times during holidays
A mother, four to five children and others live in a paperboard shack seven miles from a paved road. They celebrate Christmas with limited resources, no running water or electricity, and rely on welfare under $300 monthly. Neighbors and volunteers collect gifts and aid for them as they stay on the site. The children stress family love and giving over material wealth, while the mother says they will stay despite trespassing labels.

No New Clues In General Dozier Abduction Report
Verona Italy AP reports police discount a phone call claiming the Red Brigades sentenced U S Brig Gen James L Dozier to death. Investigators search abandoned homes for the hideout as Carabinieri comb mountains and helicopters sweep northern areas. Officials say several anonymous calls were not credible and await another communique expected after Christmas. West German and Italian authorities probe possible cooperation with German terrorists, finding no concrete evidence yet. A Beirut ANSA call warning of Dozier’s death last night proved a hoax as time passed.
