Economy accelerates as Dow tops 18000 on strong growth
The U S economy grew at a 5 percent annual rate last quarter, the fastest since 2003, driven by consumer and business spending. The Dow rose to 18,041 in midmorning trading, as revised data show stronger third quarter growth and rising consumer sentiment. Gas prices fell to improve spending, with November job gains of 321,000 signaling robust labor demand. Experts say growth could push rates higher in 2015, though inflation remains low.
