Farmers warned to guard against terror in food supply
West Virginia Agriculture Commissioner Gus Douglass urged poultry and livestock farmers to be vigilant for possible terrorist threats to the food chain. He cited rustling and rural openness near the capital, noting poultry is the leading industry with about 200 million dollars in value and 5,000 jobs, while cattle farming ranks second with roughly 405000 head statewide. Douglass said farms should watch for foreign animal diseases, keep stock away from highways, secure gates, and report any suspicious people, vehicles, or packages to the state veterinarian immediately.
