A preliminary hearing was waived as T C Bowen Jr of Tazewell faced grand jury action in the death of 22 year old Robert Lowe of Midway. Lowe was struck by Bowen’s car near the N and W freight station in Bluefield. Police say Lowe walked in front of the car as it passed a machine opposite the depot. Obie Dodson, 47, of Algoma died of a heart attack early this week at home. Last rites were held Thursday at the Algoma church with Rev. Thomas Blackwell, Rev. James Henderson, and Rev. County Reports Record Hunting Licenses Sold
McDowell County Clerk Harry K. Carper announced an all time record for hunting and fishing license receipts totaling 6850 this year. Deputy clerks in various parts of the county and a strong squirrel season boosted sales with about one third during the fall squirrel period. Of the total, 1841 was collected at the county office, with the rest from other points. McDowell ranks third or fourth in six county totals.
