Plastic plus charity card blends gift with giving catch
In Ashville Tennessee a prepaid MasterCard named GiveCard requires donors to give 10 percent of its value to a charity before spending the rest. The Nashville based Giving Tree co founded by Nick Nicholas sells the cards which cost more than their face value to cover the donation and processing fees. Recipients activate online to choose a nonprofit from a vast database. Experts see potential revenue for charities but warn philanthropy should be voluntary, not a forced gift.
