Chicago Holiday Train delights riders with Santa aboard
The Holiday Train rides through Chicago’s subway and elevated lines at 50 mph, with Santa Claus on an open flatbed car. The decorated cars feature candy cane poles and 50 000 lights, cost a regular $1.50 fare, run weekends and some Mondays between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Three cars derailed Saturday night but no injuries. Passengers praised the festive scene, while CTA workers like Dave Kowalski steer the operation and recall starting the program in 1992.
