US Airways files plan hinges on loan and pension cuts
US Airways Group filed a proposed reorganization plan in bankruptcy court seeking a $1 billion federal loan guarantee and a $240 million Alabama pension fund investment. The plan requires labor givebacks, union agreement ratification, and stock cancellation with Alabama pension ownership of 36.6 percent of new shares. Affected claims and labor contracts across subsidiaries must be resolved as the airline pursues an all-regional jet fleet. The airline, with about 32,000 workers, cites a $2.1 to $3.1 billion spread in claims and aims to emerge financially viable after the Sept 11 downturn. Hubs include Charlotte Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
