House Clears Gasoline Tax Amid Lame Duck Delays
The House approved a nickel per gallon gasoline tax hike 187 to 80, sending the measure to a Senate that may stall due to filibusters. Senate fights over truck excise tax rises and gasohol exemptions, while the White House seeks Caribbean trade aid and extended unemployment benefits. The lame duck session faces slow progress as conservatives push back, with Senate passage uncertain before Christmas.
