A proposal urges the legislature to fund salaries for a new division and three field representatives. An official argues the secretary of state must provide money for this duty, or the legislature should remove it from the secretary of state’s responsibilities.
The air war over North Vietnam continued under cloudy monsoon conditions as US pilots flew 106 missions mainly against lines of communication. In South Vietnam the Viet Cong showed strength ahead of Christmas truce with a major prewar confrontation noted. Casualty figures totaled 18,74 U.S. servicemen dead and 97,678 wounded with 45,278 wounded non hospitalized. illness, accidents and non hostile causes reached 3,100.
The Interdenominational Lay Men’s Association will hold its last meeting of the year on Saturday at 7 2 pm at the Community Center. Vice President K C Lovejoy announced the event at Bluefield.
Dr. W H Hankins Sr 70 of Venice Florida formerly of Norton Va died at home after long illness. Funeral held Tuesday 2 pm Norton Presbyterian Church burial Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Also noted are David William White 18 Swords Creek Va with multiple siblings and William R Uncle Billy Richardson 82 Elgood Va and Lucille Tilson Scott 81 Bland Va with funeral plans and hospital deaths.
Eli Blevins 75 of Chilhowie Va died at his home Wednesday night. The body will be moved from Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie to the home Friday afternoon for viewing prior to funeral services in the church cemetery.
Thursday in a Charlottesville Virginia hospital, Garnett Marrs Jamison died following a short illness. The report notes Jamison's residence and hospital care details.
David W. Pruett of Bishop Virginia died Thursday in a Richlands Virginia hospital after a long illness. The body is at Pocahontas Union Funeral Home Pocahontas Virginia pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Mrs Mayon F Yates of Vansant Va dies aged 61 with funeral today at 11 am at Rose Hill Church Big Ridge near Clintwood Rev Dewey Cantrell officiating Burial at Fleming Cemetery near the church and Monte Vista Park Cemetery God in Raven with Rev Dale Funeral in Richlands Va in charge. Mrs Ruby May Minton 45 of Rt 1 Cedar Bluff Va also noted for funeral arrangements.
Word reaches Bluefield of the death of Mrs. Estella Mason of Detroit Michigan formerly of Bluefield Virginia after an apparent heart attack. Survivors include five sons Van Junior Mason Detroit Lowell Mason McKeesport Roger Mason Columbus Leon Donald Mason Pomona California one daughter Mrs Peace Vaughn Detroit one sister Mrs Dorothy Ganaway Pittsburgh Funeral services will be con ducted and the family may be reached at 5104 Harding St Detroit.
The Tide area reports a Hampton resident, Mrs. Junior L. Schriner, 35 Wellington Drive, as a casualty in the Vietnam conflict.
Grat Davis of Route 1 Cedar Bluff Virginia dies after being struck by an auto driven by Joseph Arshell Richlands. He died following treatment at Clinch Valley Clinic in Richlands after the 6 p.m. accident. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 11 am at Hurst Scott Funeral Chapel with burial at Green Hill Memory Gardens.
A Wyoming man was electrocuted at a coal facility owned by Island Creek Coal Co near the tipple around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officials have not determined why he was at the tipple or how contact with an electric wire occurred. He was unemployed and his body was taken to a local morgue.

The Roman Catholic patriarch will lead a shortened Bethlehem pilgrimage along armistice lines to the Church of the Nativity. Two brothers Thomas and Charles Hambrick died recently and were remembered at a Beckley funeral service. Survivors include wives, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The Hambrick family also lists four brothers and one sister among the survivors. They were sons of the late John and Nannie Hambrick and had ties to Bluefield Beckley Norfolk and Longmont Colorado.
Registration for 14 night school classes at Wytheville Community College runs Jan 3 and 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. The schedule includes Marketing Principles and Practices on Tuesdays, Principles of Accounting on Mondays and Wednesdays, Economics Wednesdays, Reading Improvement Mondays, English Composition Tuesdays, Business English Thursdays, General Art and Algebra on Tuesdays, Philosophy Thursdays, and General Psychology Tuesdays, with various evening sessions.
Brownie Troop No. 4 of Bluewell presented a program for needy area children at a Green Valley Woman's Club and Junior Woman's Club meeting held at Mercer County Health Center. The girls sang songs including Bingo and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. parents listed were Mrs. John Kegley Mrs. Nick Amell and Mrs. David Stevens.

A Baltimore judge ordered Mrs. Carnelia N. Leasure committed to Springfield State Hospital after doctors found her incompetent to stand trial for the drowning death of her 20 month old daughter at her Bluefield home. She has been at the hospital since last February. A note found by the parents allegedly expressed remorse and intent to flee by bus.
Mrs. Virgie Leola Hancock 61 of Keystone died at home after receiving word that her son Sp5 Thomas Lynn Hancock 22 was killed in an auto accident in Germany. Funeral arrangements for mother and son were incomplete at Bennett Funeral Home in Northfork.
Funeral services for Mayor C. Judson Lambert, 51, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bluefield with Rev. Glen Weaver officiating and burial at Monte. Lambert, elected mayor in 1965, died Wednesday night at his home after a heart attack. He resided at 230 Parkway. Pallbearers named: Charles Meade, Howard Jarrett, J. C. Walkers, Frank Woods, Harry Lynch, Fred Simon, Willard Early and Carol Shockey.
The Virginia State Chamber of Commerce said tourism was down overall for the year, but five months in 1967 saw 15 attractions up 1 to 35 percent while another 15 declined 1 to 31 percent.
The Bluefield Va Kiwanis Club met at the Auditorium Restaurant with Rev Roger Hilton and guests. Part one featured singing by Mrs Ann Miller Mrs Edna Tate and Harvey Tate. Hilton gave a Christmas message stressing Christ at the heart of Christmas. Invocation was by Rev French Taylor. Corky Rutherford and Wayne Hess from Graham High School spoke. POINT PLEASANT AP House of Delegates Minority Leader Brereton C. Jones bitterly disappointed by Gov. Hulett C. Smith not seeking a legislative investigation of the Silver Bridge collapse. Jones says the telegram informed him the request would not be placed in the legislature call, calling it intolerable.
