McDowell towns receive over 2.3 million in federal grants
Gov. Bob Wise announces more than 2.3 million dollars in Small Cities Community Development Block Grant funding for McDowell County. Welch gets 1.5 million to replace sewer lines and advance phase two of the sewage treatment system under a federal court order. Anawalt receives 421 thousand for demolitions, center renovation, and playground work after the July flood. County plans include 465 thousand for demolishing 60 blighted housing units and health center repairs to meet ADA. Mayor Martha Moore calls the funding timely as downtown renovations proceed with a new Social Security building and DMV office, with a movie theater planned and parking slated near the DMV site.
