PEIA Board OKs Insurance Premium Increase
Gov elect Wise and the Legislature will face PEIA actions at session start in 2001. An 8 million dollar premium rise for teachers and public employees passed on a 4 to 3 vote after long debate, with divisions between employee and at large board members. Wise called the move irresponsible to second guess and said PEIA will be a priority.

Community Christmas Tree fundraising in Bluefield WV nears a 16700 target set at 12000. Tuesday gifts total 775 bringing the drive to 16621 as a city auditorium event for hundreds of children is planned Friday with Santa arriving around noon to distribute treats. Contributions may be mailed or delivered to Daily Telegraph offices.

Mercer Salvation Army buys toys for 1000 area kids
Mercer County Salvation Army officials bought 4700 dollars worth of toys at Wal-Mart to help children whose angel tree names were not adopted or lacked gifts. Capt. Bob Mullins said the effort will aid nearly 1000 families in Tazewell Virginia and McDowell Summers and Mercer counties in West Virginia, with 75 percent of names from Mercer. Some 900 applications were received this year, up from a few hundred last year. Gifts should be delivered to Princeton or Bluefield Salvation Army offices.
