El-Tech hires for Princeton face 1500 plus applicants
Eric Cummings of Engineering and Economics Research Inc announced that more than 1,500 people applied for the initial 50 El-Tech positions in Princeton. He said screening all applicants slows the process and aims for fairness. Anne Kellogg will serve as personnel manager for about nine months and begin work in Princeton.

Fire at Matoaka Elementary tied to two youths in court
Two Matoaka area boys aged 10 and 14 were bound to Mercer County Juvenile Court after preliminary hearings on arson and other charges for a December 12 fire at Matoaka Elementary School. The 14 year old remains jailed on a $10,000 bond. the 10 year old placed in emergency shelter. The blaze damaged a second floor classroom and nearby areas, forcing cancellation of about 200 students' classes. Repairs began and five first floor classrooms will be available when school resumes January 5 after the break.

Inflation cools modestly with 0.3 percent gain in November
Consumer prices advanced 0.3 percent in November led by higher food and auto costs while energy declined. Analysts project 1986 inflation near 1.3 percent for the year, the lowest in 22 years, with 1987 seen rising to about 4 percent as oil price effects fade.
