The county canning center at Glenwood Park will be open Tuesday and Wednesday for processing foods and lard making from 9 to 12. Lard production requires appointment by telephone 98913. Butchering is available Monday through Wednesday, with seasonal closure on December 31. Operations resume after Christmas.
Thomas Jefferson predicted Washington DC could reach about 100000 inhabitants after a century and possibly 200000 at full development. The 1940 census later recorded the District’s population at 663091.
The Mercer county Farm Women’s Council closes a productive year detailing club achievements across the county. Athens adds members and sessions. Brush Creek forms a Central Point club with six community nights. Ceres hosts a slip cover demo. Flat Top opens a Friends’ Library with 200 volumes. and Nemours donates to Red Cross, tuberculosis, and cancer efforts. The year includes leadership training, a planned yearbook, camp, achievement day, scholarships, and a bathroom initiative for homes in 1949.
Miss Ora Peters and Miss Vandiver clubs achieved the best attendance at readers training schools. Regions noted include Athens Brush Creek Ceres and Pisgah.
The Princeton chapter 53 OES will meet Tuesday at 8 PM with Mrs. Marvin Miller and Ned Barberie presiding. It is the annual Christmas party with gifts exchanged and a social hour after the program. All visiting members in the city are welcome. The Holliday Bible class meets Monday December 20 at 8 PM at 715 Highland avenue for the annual Christmas meeting with co hostess Mrs. Charles Lohr.
The Princeton Garden club will meet Monday at 2 PM at 203 Wallace Street hosted by Mrs. Charles Lohr with co hosts Mrs. W O Sowers Mrs S T Bird and Mrs J R Vermillion. The event is the regular Christmas party with gift exchanges. time moved from 2 30 to 2 o'clock.
The Friendship Garden club will gather Tuesday at 8 o'clock with Mrs. Clyde Bourne on Hale Avenue. Members are asked to bring a Christmas arrangement and a gift to exchange.
At 4:30 in the Princeton Presbyterian church Mrs. Georgia Young and her daughter Cherry join Mrs. Vivian Georghean of Keiser along with Dr. and Mrs. O S Reynolds of Franklin Dr. and Mrs. W C Logan of Roanoke and Charles Ferguson of Charleston for a planned event.
The Fine Arts group holds its December meeting and Christmas party Monday evening at the Appalachian social room. A covered dish dinner is set for 6 30.
Mrs. N E Lanton will host the Delphian club regular meeting and Christmas party Tuesday night December 21 at her Highland avenue home.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Young of Detroit Michigan are the parents of a son born December 4. The infant weighed seven pounds ten ounces. Mr Young is the son of Mrs T T Cunningham of Princeton.
Among the out of town guests who will arrive here Sunday and Monday to attend the wedding of Miss Clara Beam to Mr James Newcome Monday afternoon at the local church venue and reception forthcoming.
