Wall Street slides as Fed auctions $20 billion credit
Wall Street extended losses as investors worried about growth and inflation and questioned the Fed credit auction’s impact. The Dow fell 172.65 to 13,167.20, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also down. Greenspan warned of stagflation risk as consumer prices rose and holiday spending cooled. Ingersoll Rand agreed to buy Trane for $10.1 billion, sending Trane up while Ingersoll Rand sank.
