Community Center hosts eighth annual holiday affair
BLUEFIELD The Community Center on Peck Street hosted its eighth annual Christmas Celebration turning into a neighborhood favorite since 1990. Dora Moore says the event brings joy to children with treats, educational materials, music, and a Santa photo opportunity. Volunteers and Girl Scout Troop help decorate as center directors handle details. Santa visits 6 to 7 p.m. today and Thursday, with photo pickup Friday. The Friday drawing funds the food basket donated by volunteers. The Carolina Community Home began in 1918 to aid unmarried African American mothers and expanded to services like well baby clinics and sales clerk classes.
