Emerald ash borer reaches Mercer County in West Virginia
The West Virginia Department of Agriculture added Mercer County to its list of infestations for emerald ash borer, joining Ritchie, Braxton, Hampshire, Mineral, Lewis and Lincoln counties. The beetle, metallic green and under half an inch, is active mainly in summer and creates D shaped holes in ash trunks. Officials warn that movement of ash firewood spreads the pest and urge campers not to transport firewood between sites. For questions call 304-558-2212.

Inaugural pomp costs rise with private funding pull
Washington reports the 57th inauguration will be funded largely by private donors and supporters. Officials say balls will be fewer than in 2009 and security costs are borne by taxpayers. The 2009 event drew 1.8 million people and raised about 53 million in private money.
