West Virginia Kids Count data shows mixed child well being
The 10th Kids Count Data Book finds WV birth-weight births rose from 6.9 to 8.2 percent from 1990 to 2000 while births to unmarried teens climbed from 9.5 to 10.2 percent. Infant mortality and teen births fell, but McDowell and Tucker counties show uneven progress with high rates of low birth weight and teen births remaining in McDowell.
