The casino backers were ousted by reformists claiming the casino failed to fund public improvements. Authorities fear revolution as armed police replace the former forces to keep peace among Monaco’s 22,000 citizens.
The liner Celtic faced heavy seas and salvage crews sheltered as tugs towed toward shelter in Cork harbor. The ship’s cat appeared to be the only living creature aboard, remaining sole mistress of the vessel amid the perilous night.
Billings Montana December 15 coal mines shut ten days due to miners rejecting a $1.20 daily wage cut will reopen Monday operators announce. UMWA says new contract ratified in referendum yesterday after earlier vote against the reduction. Basic daily wage set at 7.19 dollars under a contract through June 1953.
Hazard Kentucky reports two dead in the Hotel Combs fire with several missing. Fire threatened downtown Hazard as firefighters rushed from Lexington with equipment. The three story hotel housed about 35 people when the blaze started in a separate kitchen building.
