West Virginia lawmakers face multi million special session costs
Six West Virginia special sessions this year have cost taxpayers at least 1.5 million based on 44 days beyond the regular session. Lawmakers are paid 150 a day plus 115 per diem unless near the Capitol, with some members accepting the old rate. Mileage and staff costs push totals higher, and precise statewide figures remain elusive.

Two Adults and Infant Targeted in Tazewell County Child Abuse Probe
Two Amonate adults and a critically ill three and a half month old baby are the focus of a Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department investigation. The infant remains in critical condition at a Johnson City hospital after hospital officials reported the child’s condition worsened since admission. Emergency crews transported the child from Clinch Valley Medical Center by helicopter. Detective Anne Hickman said the sheriff’s office received a call from the Social Services Department of Child Abuse and Neglect. She called it a severe ongoing case and noted no crime had been confirmed yet. The department has alerted the county’s commonwealth attorney.
