Florida's winter job market for women in Miami
A Miami article reports on how Florida’s winter labor demand favors specialists over versatile workers. It cites YWCA guidance showing housework pays $12 to $18 weekly with room and board, cooks $12 to $20, nursemaids $10 to $15, stenographers $20 to $35, and clerical work without typing scarce. It notes high living costs, scarce accommodations, and a perception that many educated women must become waitresses or house help.
