The Diamond Brothers restaurant will reopen Saturday after a fire and subsequent repairs. Improvements aimed at smoother service and customer satisfaction are in place to restore operations and meet demand.
West Virginians in Washington report on a bill by Rep James A Hughes to require publication of campaign spending in federal elections and on postal rate reforms. Thomas A. Edison told the New York World that electricity will replace coal transport by building power plants at mine mouths and sending power via copper wires. He estimates 100000 horsepower can be transmitted at about one third the cost of coal transport, with broad adoption in 15 years.
Dingess Run Coal Co a West Virginia firm with Charleston and Huntington ties gains undisputed control of a large coal acreage after Judge Mason's long dispute ruling. The decision cuts King tract land in Marion and neighboring counties from 600000 to about 100000 acres, promising early development of coal resources in the region. News from Richmond confirms the Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia affirmed the Giles County circuit court verdict convicting Morris Cremenne of the murder of an elderly man named Kidd near Lorich. Cremenne, sentenced to hang, will face resentencing at the next term of court.
The Anti-Saloon League session at the YMCA ball approved forming a printing committee to publish league material, seek existing newspaper partners, or use other methods. A mass meeting is set for January 1 1906 at the Christian Church to bolster temperance work and oppose new saloon licenses in Bluefield as old licenses expire.
McArthur Brothers with offices in the Terry Building Roanoke have opened bids from sub contractors to build Tidewater road in five mile blocks. They have three camps already and started digging at Alleghany summit. First hundred miles from Norfolk west nearly complete awaiting rails. Grading is almost done and once track is laid the line will be used to move supplies from Norfolk west.

In Shamokin Pennsylvania 800 delegates of the United Mine Workers meet to demand full union recognition in the anthracite field. They plan for an eight hour day and a wage increase as secondary goals, with committees set to draft demands for operators.
The will of Robert Ballantine opened in Charlottesville on December 14 in the presence of his brother. It includes a bequest to George Mason of Edge Hill and its contents. Henry Young Jr. is named administrator. no interference expected. Herber Ballantine left Charlottesville for New York to attend his uncle’s funeral in Madison New Jersey. George Mason declined to comment on blackmail charges, administrator Harry Young Jr. may investigate.
In Greeneburg Pennsylvania on December 14 a house fire during the absence of John Luaie and his wife killed two children who were sleeping in bed. The tragedy occurred as Christmas presents were being advertised for sale at Pedigo's.

Luther B Byoum a 63 year old merchant and cotton mill owner from Chatham County died of heart disease in the federal court room in Raleigh while serving as a character witness. He directed the state hospital for the insane at Goldsboro and the Methodist Orphanage, and was en route to a hospital board meeting. He was a Confederate veteran.
Rev. Dr. Arthur S. Lloyd, missionary secretary of the Episcopal Church in America, announces from New York his declination of the coadjutor bishopric of Southern Virginia. A new bishop will be elected at Portsmouth today.
Washington reports a house Republican conference approved creating two new states. One pairing unites Oklahoma with the Indian Territory, the other links New Mexico with Arizona, forming two new states by a 110 to 65 vote.

The plan cuts Alabama from nine to five, Arkansas seven to five, Florida three to two, Georgia eleven to six, Louisiana seven to four, Mississippi eight to three, North Carolina ten to seven, South Carolina seven to three, Tennessee ten to eight, Texas sixteen to thirteen, and Virginia ten to seven.
