McDonnell seeks 2 percent raise for Virginia teachers
Gov. Bob McDonnell proposes a 2 percent pay raise for public school teachers the first in five years, funded at about 59 million dollars, with a tied Education Fairness Act boosting probation for new teachers and easing incompetence penalties. The plan requires local match based on the composite index and faces House and Senate approval. Virginia Education Association leader Meg Gruber cautions the raise may not compensate for past cuts and questions performance criteria.
