pails f dlr Rajil a-4no Zombie vaccine but we can protect our health from kid germs after being reminded by both my mom and a Public health nurse i finally made some room on my schedule and got a flu shot. I went to county health department before going to work one Day rolled up my sleeve and it was done. The whole process took about to minutes. Of course i Wasny to automatically immune to any flu bugs. Partial immunity takes about two weeks to form. And you re not fully immunized for about a month. The sooner you get vaccinated the sooner you get that immunity. In a More wary of two other bugs buzzing through the local population. One is an upper respiratory virus that news editor Andy Patton dubbed a a super cold its just like the regular cold but stronger and even nastier. I can live with that i think but the second one is the Bug of my nightmares a the stomach flu. I be hosted varieties of stomach flu in my time and its never a Happy event. It makes me think of the plague and other interesting times in human history the vectors or carriers of these assorted bugs Are not what usually comes to mind. Fleas Riding rats car a a a within a couple of years Little brother Alex came along. He got sick too and shared the Joy with me. This time i had a stomach flu that beat me like a monster wit a baseball Bat. Ried the plague to Europe and Mosquito deliver bugs such As malaria. Those carriers Are nothing compared to Small children. Rats and Mosquito done to have hands. My oldest Nephew a.j., was a toddler when he put me Flat on my Back for the first time. My sister Karen and her family were visiting my mom and dad so i naturally came to visit too. . Wasny to feeling Well and everyone was fussing Over him. I took my turns comforting him and keeping him occupied. That was one Heck of a mistake. I should have used lots of hand Sanitizer i started feeling sick As soon As i got Back to Mercer county. Within a Day i had a fever and no appetite for anything. I had to Call in sick drink lots of fluids and weather the storm. . Bounced Back in a Day but i was Down sick for three Days. That a when i Learned the fact that getting older Isnit always fun. You just done to recover from bugs the Way you did when you were a kid. Within a couple of years Little brother Alex came along. He got sick. To. And shared the Joy with me. This time i had a stomach flu that beat me like a monster with a baseball Bat. Iii spare everyone the gory details but this bout of stomach flu was bad. When Christmas arrived a year later. I was Down in Charlotte to spend the Holiday with Karen. I was helping get things out of the car when Karen mentioned that the boys weren to feeling too Good. A ooh a i said utterly Deadpan. Lord Only knows what Bug for Christmas i thought. This time i managed to avoid getting sick. Now that the boys Are teens their habits Are a lot More sanitary. Unfortunately i still have to visit schools occasionally and going out in Public As much As i do exposes one to flu bugs. That s Why getting a flu shot was so important. Besides my own health i have to think about my parents. The last thing i want to do is to infect them with a new flu Bug. You would think that More people would get vaccinated against flu and other diseases now that pandemics a those epidemics that travel the Globe a Are one of Hollywood a More popular ways to destroy the world. I think this trend started with the 1970s movie a the Andromeda based on the novel by Michael Crichton the same Guy who wrote a Jurassic Park Quot the movie describes scientists battling a space germ that made the plague look like the common cold. Andromeda was definitely scarier than a tyrannosaurus on the Loose. More recent editions of germs almost wiping out humanity include a i am legend with will Smith and a Rise of the planet of the apes Quot with and Serkis. Jets carried both movies super bugs around the world in a few Days. Then you have All the assorted a Zombie movies with their shambling,., biting ghouls that Are almost As bad As Little kids when it comes to spread a t ing disease. There Isnit any vaccine against com. Hies but we do have vaccines against a the flu. Being vaccinated does no to take0?T much time and does no to Cost much Ami a the pin prick from an injection is better than suffering Days of flu agony. Doing simple things like making a sure to Wash your hands and turning1 j away if you have to cough or sneeze a a a will also keep the flu at Bay but a vac t citation is the Best Way to avoid get a Ting sick. All the nurses i talk to Tell me the same thing done to wait to get f that shot. You done to become immune from the a flu the moment you get that shot. It takes a couple of weeks to build up partial immunity and a month to reach full immunity. The sooner you Are vaccinated the i. Sooner you can weather the rest of flu season and avoid the dangers posed by children. Greg Jordan is senior reporter at the daily it Telegraph. But folks Back Home in West Virginia Arentt quite As Happy. In fact Many Are downright upset. And their concern is rightfully justified. Normally we would Reserve judgment on a television show until actually viewing the entire broadcast. However. A tvs a trailer of a Buck wild is enough for us to realize that the new series is bad news for the Mountain state. Coming to us from the same network that brought Quot Jersey Shore to television my will begin airing the reality show a Buck wild at to . On Jan. 3. The series was filmed in Charleston and Sissonville. The Eye opening trailer shows a cast of Young men and women drinking cursing and swearing undressing and making out four Wheeling fighting and even filling a dump truck with water and using it As a swimming Pool. Whether these Young adults were acting to the camera a or being As a a real As reality television can get a their actions and words Are still reason for concern. The state denied tax credits for the 12-episode series based Over concerns about its negative portrayal of West a Virginia. We believe this was the Correct decision by gov. Earl Ray Tomblin. A Buck wild Isnit Spike Tvs?Ocoal? nor is it Universal picture s a october Sty a or Steven Spielberg so super 8? not even close. Instead it appears to be a very sad Effort by mtg to create a negative image of West Virginia and to promote an ugly stereotype of the proud citizens of the Mountain state. That a truly sad. But we be used to it by now Back in 2002, lbs wanted to develop the a the real Beverly Hillbillies a which was to feature residents of Rural Appalachia that were to be relocated to the Middle of Beverly Hills. Plans for that show were thankfully cancelled following a a a the state denied tax credits for the 12-episode series based Over concerns about its negative portrayal of West Virginia. We believe this was the Correct decision by gov. Earl Ray Tomblin. Widespread opposition from state residents. Then we had to endure the Slasher flick a wrong turn a a movie about inbred West Virginia cannibalistic Mountain men that went so far As to make a reference to missing Bluefield state College students in its opening minutes. Why television and movie studios continue to promote the Mountain state in a negative Light is baffling. We see nothing positive coming out Of?Obuckwild? it is clearly the intent of the trailer to show Case poor moral behaviour among West Virginia youth and to illustrate negative Mountain state stereotypes. . Sen. Joe Manshin d-w.va., Calls a a Buckwold Quot A?Otravesty? he is asking mtg to cancel the show before the first episode airs. He is to be applauded for taking this Correct stand. A instead of showcasing the Beauty of our people and our state you preyed on Young people coaxed them into displaying shameful behaviour a and now you Are profiting from it a Manshin said in a letter to mtg we agree. We would urge All viewers to avoid a Buck wild based upon what we be seen to Date. If you want to see a Good movie filmed in West Virginia or Virginia or with a West Virginia or Virginia connection watch a october Sty a 1994 s a Lassie a which was filmed in its entirety in Tazewell county the modern classic a dirty dancing Quot which was filmed in Giles county or a super 8?. And then a what do you know a things Start taking care of themselves. Maybe there was some helpful shoving and it could be that More needs to be done. But you still have a kind of spontaneous solution As is the Case with immigration. The immigration Issue that has received the most attention is illegal arrivals but that has always been just part of it. The United states has been importing roughly a million Legal permanent immigrants a year More than any other country and the vast majority of them come from very poor parts of latin America mostly Mexico. They were largely uneducated and unskilled often did not speak English and frequently struggled to make a decent living. Some were educated and Many that were not contributed in important ways. There Are nevertheless limits in opportunities for those without special abilities in this increasingly High tech country and a Lack of education is a drag on productivity. It should have come As Little Surprise that increases in poverty have come largely from hispanics and that a High percentage of immigrants end up on welfare some people said latino poverty would disappear As generations pass but As Heather Mac Donald of Manhattan Institute has demonstrated Many hispanic families have been plagued by unwed motherhood and offspring who drop out of High school and have too Many brushes with the Law poverty has not gone away and the need was More of something started in the 1990s standards of immigrant admission emphasizing skills education and wealth instead of Jay Ambrose a a a it was a humane move that also happened to be unconstitutionally autocratic which is to say Rule of Law does not matter to some when it comes to politics. Just family ties. That seemed impossible after the presidential election. The latino vote has become big and powerful and Republican candidate Mitt Romney alienated it with his Calls for a National id system to keep illegals out of jobs and to encourage self deportation. Meanwhile president Barack Obama wooed hispanics with a presidential edict that immigration Laws would be ignored in the Case of deporting immigrants who came into the country As children. It was a humane move that also happened to be unconstitutionally autocratic which is to say Rule of Law does not matter to some when it comes to politics. I need not remind anyone of the elections outcome or How republicans suddenly seemed to believe you can to give latinos enough hugs or kisses and it seemed that we could anticipate legislation that if anything would encourage still More immigration of the kind damaging our future prospects. Here is what is happening minus intervention first off owing in part to a bad Economy made worse by Obama s mismanagement mexicans have been self deporting in vast numbers. And at the same time fewer and fewer Are choosing to come Here Mexico is having an economic Boom its Middle class is growing opportunities Are increasing and the growth of its population is slowing. Meanwhile the largest immigrant group now entering the country every year is asians who mostly come Here with High skills and education and who once they arrive largely end up making Good incomes while their children earn College degrees. They absolutely Are assimilating and the Point is not a difference in racial or ethnic groups but that it pays off when immigration rules emphasize potential boosts to the Economy no matter where people come from. I think we should aim As James Glassman of the George w. Bush Institute says to attract As Many of the worlds smartest people to America As we can. I think we Are also in a position now where we can give amnesty to illegal immigrants making a positive contribution granting them citizenship after they attend demanding classes and pass an exacting citizenship test. A National id would still be a Good idea but especially Given already improved Border Security i think we re approaching a time when the flow of illegal immigrants will be a minor matter.
