Wholesale prices rose 1.2 percent in October and slow to November while the Senate backed a 7.5 billion aid bill for the unemployed. Ford weighed tax-cut options as House Rules blocked a sweeping tax measure amid warnings of inflation trends.

West Virginia expands Medicaid to 103000 people with incomes within 10 percent of welfare level. Gov. Arch Moore says the extension, already in effect since Dec 1, will nearly double eligible recipients and includes catastrophic illness coverage. Federal funding covers 70 to 75 percent with no new state appropriation. The state also gains HEW approval for a fully computerized Medicaid information and payment system to cut vendor payment delays.
Stripper Fanne Foxe was arrested in Casselberry Florida on indecent exposure charges after allegedly appearing bottomless at the end of her nightclub act. She was released on bond with club owner Mike Pinter, who said the display was a bow and flash with no lewd gestures.
London AP reports Sir Alfred Ayer a Wykeham professor of logic at Oxford calls the world insane yet sees hope. He cites kinder treatment of children less cruelty in Britain and a less vindictive prison system while warning of global war risks and immense evil tools if a Hitler or Stalin arose. He notes a latent global community spirit ready to be roused for good and the need for sacrifice.
The Norfolk and Western Railway said it has recalled 542 employees furloughed during the coal miners strike. Overall 1,276 were laid off systemwide, with recall in other areas to be done as needed. In Roanoke the plant will furlough 300 workers December 20, with 200 to return January 2 to different jobs.
Pittsburgh dispatch reports rejection of a new contract for mine construction workers, triggering limited shutdowns in western Pennsylvania. About 7,500 of District 2’s 10,000 miners were idle while other mines remained active under back to work pressure.
The House Judiciary Committee voted 26 to 12 to recommend Nelson A. Rockefeller for confirmation as vice president, despite Democratic opposition over his wealth and gifts. Senate approval followed 90 to 7, with a plan for a late Thursday full House vote and possible White House swearing in that night.
