Winter Fire Safety Tips From Bluefield Fire Officials
Bluefield fire officials urge caution in heating choices during winter. Chief Gerald Steele stresses cleaning and inspecting heaters, placing space heaters away from combustibles, avoiding overuse, and using correct fuels with proper ventilation. He warns against damaged cords and exposed wires, and advises working smoke and CO detectors. Princeton firefighter Keith Gunnoe warns about Christmas trees near heat sources, dry or damaged trees, and the need for fresh cuts. Chimneys and stove pipes should be cleaned yearly to prevent fires. Contact Jody Neal at jodyneal bottonline.com.
