Mercer considers stricter indoor air rules in county ordinance

Bland travel stop to open Arby’s in Bastian Virginia
Bland County officials and Love’s Travel Stops announced ground breaking for a new 24/7 travel center off exit 58 in Bastian. The store, replacing the old Citgo, will include an Arby’s and create about 40 to 50 full time jobs, with management drawn from the company and local hires. Construction begins in spring with an estimated open in fall 2017.

Tourism rises in Tazewell County in 2016 year
Officials report 2016 was a strong year for Tazewell County tourism with gains across lodging taxes meals taxes and attraction admissions. Historic Crab Orchard Museum attendance topped 25 000 while the Pocahontas Exhibition Mine and Museum more than doubled. The Original Pocahontas ATV Trail permit sales surged 458 percent boosting trail use and lodging for riders. Overall 16 new businesses six expansions created 97 new jobs and attracted 3.26 million dollars in private investment. Most growth centered in the county's food service sector.
