Christmas Tree fund nears 3000 as drive continues

Contributions for the Community Christmas Tree trail in Bluefield are slow but steady, with more than 11,000 still needed to reach the 14,000 goal. Open House at Bluefield High School and Local Meetings

On Monday December 7 Bluefield High School hosts an open house from 5 to 7 pm inviting all parents. At 7 pm the New River Parkway Authority meets in Concord College Student Center rooms A B and C in Athens. Also at 7 pm the Mercer County Peace Coalition gathers at 202 Plymouth Street Athens to plan health care forum and Legislative session action. Call 384-7005 for more information.

Lost hunter found in good shape after four day search

Steven French, 22, of Princeton, was found Saturday in good condition across Bluestone Gorge after a four day rescue effort in Pipestem State Park. He suffered a hip injury, dehydration and exposure but had stable vital signs and was taken to Princeton Community Hospital. Emergency crews tracked him by helicopter and dogs as they cleared rugged terrain near Lerona and Pine Grove.

Water project touted to reshape Pipestem Princeton area

Mercer and Summers counties and regional planners push a 21.5 million dollar public private water project linking Bluestone Lake to Pipestem State Park through Hinton and Princeton. Officials say 9,000 residents would gain reliable supply, with 5 to 15 million gallons per day start capacity and a 5 million dollar treatment plant, while upgrades to current plants could be avoided if funding is approved.
