American military government said Russians took about 85 percent of undamaged factory machinery from Berlin in the two months after the war while alone in the city. The statement added that machinery remaining when the western powers joined in July 1946 was largely damaged or burned.
Charleston and Kingston men John Marrello and John Ferguell were found guilty by a federal jury of conspiracy to kidnap Ruth Virginia Fitzwater to stop her from testifying in a state prostitution case. Sentencing set for January 14. death penalty waived.
Frankfurt Dec 4 The sixth day of a missing C 47 transport search ended with all planes grounded by fog and ground units withdrawn. Two Bluefield area soldiers aboard are among the 20 aboard. Aerial search will resume tomorrow weather permitting. Ground crews rest and refuel before renewed flights. The effort focuses on the French zone near Berschweiler where a signal fire was seen. No further signals were heard today.
Washington December 4 The loyalty review board released a list naming 71 organizations and 11 schools deemed totalitarian fascist communist or subversive by the attorney general and the president. Some groups carry over from 1943 and many small local groups were omitted.
