Former Buchanan official pleads guilty in Coon Dog scandal
David Thompson former Buchanan County emergency services coordinator and mapping technician pleaded guilty to racketeering money laundering conspiracy and program fraud in a scheme that diverted flood relief funds. Prosecutors say 16 defendants were indicted last year with four more trial set in April. The case stems from disaster aid after May 2002 floods in Hurley and other areas. Thompson resigned two weeks ago and faces up to 50 years in prison.
