Oscar Nominees Narrow Amid Sparse 2000s Field
Oscar short list from Los Angeles highlights weak slate with top contenders including Sandler, Stallone, Travolta and a comic shift toward smaller titles. Analysts note uncertain favorites for Best Picture and Actor, with potential boosts for Erin Brockovich, Gladiator, Billy Elliot, You Can Count On Me and Finding Forrester amid the film year’s uneven quality and late releases.
