Mass MoCA rises from Sprague mill ruin in North Adams
In the Berkshire town of North Adams the Sprague Electric plant once housed 4,000 jobs and helped power Apollo missions but closed in the mid 1980s. Today Mass MoCA converts the former buildings into a premier contemporary art center attracting tech firms, artists in residence, and new housing, lowering unemployment to 2.8 percent and reviving a community long defined by its industrial past.
