Major league owners face a busy week with talks on the bonus rule and radio TV restrictions. The American and National leagues meet separately before a possible joint session, while players seek higher minimum salaries and direct talks with winter leagues.
The NFL Western race hinges on Los Angeles Rams Baltimore Colts and Chicago Bears as the weekend slate offers potential title outcomes. A Rams win or Bears loss could crown the West, while a Colts victory keeps tension with L A. The Browns can clinch the East at Pittsburgh with help from the Giants.
The world light heavyweight title fight between Archie Moore and Yolande Pompey of Trinidad was postponed after Moore sprained his ankle. The Jan. 10 London bout at Earls Court Stadium is delayed until a new date can be found when the arena is available.
Douglas Anderson was named president of the West Virginia High School Athletic Union at Bluefield State College. Officers include John Mackey as vice president and Harry Brown as secretary. The union voted to end the East West Football Game and announced the 1955 Negro All-State football team with players from London Washington, Byrd Prillerman, Du Bois, and Beckley Stratton among others.
Ronald Tags Meredith, 17, quarterback of St. Albans Class AA champions, named Kennedy Award winner for outstanding high school football player in West Virginia. Selection reported by awards committee chairman John T. Gelder after tallying 56 ballots from coaches, writers, and officials.
