London reports the Daily Mail states a commission will govern in the king's name during illness. The body includes the lord chancellor premier Archbishop of Canterbury and the Duke of York with powers to administer but not to devolve parliament or grant titles.

In Charleston West Virginia a two hour pistol exchange ended with tear gas. John T Gann barricaded in his cellar firing at police and lights. He surrendered after a tear gas bomb was used. The Chile earthquake centered on Talca and Consucio n left 218 killed and 257 seriously injured with about 20 000 homeless. Talca and Consucion lie in ruins as aftershocks strain shelters. Richmond December 3 The Virginia Anti-Saloon League leader calls on Governor Byrd to ask university authorities to allow federal prohibition agents access to the University of Virginia grounds fraternities and student body to protect students from bootleggers. University president Alderman says drinking is lower now than in the past and not uniquely higher than other state schools.
Seattle dies at a Seattle hotel after months of illness. Ezra Meeker, famed pioneer who crossed the Oregon Trail with his family, died aged 97. He was born in Ontario December 29 and moved west in 1852 with his wife and child. Funeral services will be held in Seattle Wednesday. survivors include four children, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren.
President elect Herbert Hoover rested aboard the battleship Maryland as it neared Callao Peru escorted by the Peruvian cruiser Almirante Grau. The Grau saluted Hoover with twenty one gun bursts but the Maryland did not return the salute. Hoover praised Ecuadorian reception and noted favorable U.S. press coverage amid radio silence in a blackout.
Open ing statements were heard as the trial of Dr. Otto Fisher began in Keyser amid charges connected to the death of Lonnie Beckone. Co defendants Orville Liskey and Luella Whetsel face separate indictments and will be tried later. The case traced the arrest sequence after Be con e’s body was found in Fisher’s office on September 11.
