Albuquerque authorities and officials in Oklahoma and Colorado scrutinize the deaths linked to Carl Wickman. They focus on Mrs Donalda Chicoine Wickman killed in a suspected hit and run in Albuquerque and review prior cases including Mrs Marie Burns Wickman in Holbrook Arizona and Mrs Rhoda Keith Wickman in Brighton Colorado.
Waxey Gordon, New Jersey beer baron, convicted of income tax evasion and sentenced to ten years at Northwestern Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Brooklyn reports two men, David Lind and Moe Levine, pleaded guilty to violating the National Recovery Act in what prosecutors call the first NRA criminal case. They ran three Hercules Gasoline stations and allegedly kept workers at 66 hours weekly and failed to post federal and state tax details in gasoline pricing. They were fined $100 each. the corporation faced a $206 assessment.
Annapolis Md December 1 Senate defeated Senator Joseph Allan Coads 10 cent per gallon liquor tax plan by a 15 to 7 vote. Immediately Senator McIntosh proposed a $1 per barrel beer tax then defended it though administration backers said the excise measure would pass the senate but fail in the house.
Senator Wagner announced the national labor board would meet next Tuesday to canvass protested votes from last week's western Pennsylvania captive mine elections. The board also probes bribery and intimidation claims by UMWA Vice President Philip Murray tied to steel company owners. Union victories were reported at 19 mines with Independent Workmen’s Brotherhoods winning 9. Endenborn mine result pending.
Walter Jones of Flint Michigan was hanged at Colorado State Penitentiary for the October 1932 slaying of Hartford Johnson a transient in a moving boxcar near Palisade Jones died at 834 pm after the noose was sprung at 818 pm He was the 45th and last execution under Colorado s infamous death machine which will be replaced by a gas chamber Jones asked for a Thanksgiving feast and a toast before death Johnson s skull was crushed with an iron bolt

The senate banking subcommittee dismissed charges that Chairman Jesse H. Jones benefited personally from RFC loans to Houston mortgage firms Bankers Mortgage Midland Mortgage and Southern Investment and Loan. The panel found the loans justified fully secured and that Jones had no personal profit.

Richard Beatty Mellon, influential Pittsburgh financier and head of Mellon National Bank, dies at 65 after pneumonia. Leading figure in the family fortune and corporate empire, his death follows active service on boards and a day in the city’s business districts. He is survived by his widow, a son, a daughter, and brothers Andrew and James Ross Mellon. Interment at Allegheny Cemetery follows 3 PM Sunday services at the Fifth Avenue mansion.

Washington December 1 Representative Lewis Democrat Maryland says the soft coal code needs greater regulation after two months of operation. He plans to press a coal bill in the next session to set production quotas for mines and districts. He envisions using coal code authorities as part of a production regulation machinery and notes many coal leaders agree regulation is needed. Experts previously studied production limits but paused when the NRA tackled coal industry issues.
Willie Sharkey, known as a strong arm man for the Touhy gang, killed himself in a St Paul jail cell hours after a federal jury acquitted him and three others of abducting William Hamm Jr. The foreman Lundry received a threatening letter but ignored it. The four were to be moved to Chicago for trial on Hamm kidnapping charges and other offenses.
